Debate Mexico at a crossroad: The (global) politics behind Mexico's cultural contemporary transformations

Friday 21 September, 17.00 hrs, International School for Humanities and Social Sciences, UvA

Moderator: Koen Kleijn (De Groene Amsterdammer)

As can be seen in El Violín, screened in the Dystopia theme block of Cinemaztlán, Mexico's history has not been spotless. The film is an indictment of the injustice, poverty and economical deprivation. Nowadays, Mexico experiences a unique momentum in its political history, as left forces gaining terrain while conservative agendas remain.

In the debate, Dutch filmmaker Cyrus Frisch, Dr. F. Strazzari(UvA), Dr. José Carlos Aguiar (CEDLA)and Mexican film specialist Carlos Bonfil address how the political liberalism and conservatism combine in order to propel contemporary cultural changes.

Entrance free, English spoken
