At the Tropic of Cancer in the desert of San Luis Potosi lives a group of families close to the American border. In a crude way, they catch rats, snakes and birds to sell these animals to prosperous American tourists. While the Trucks rumble along highway 57, at the side of the road the Mexicans haggle with the Americans over a Snakeskin. Director Pogolvsky observes and portrays a group of people who, in a traditional way, keep up with rapid pace of capitalism.

Eugenio Polgovsky Ezcurra was born in 1974 in Mexico City. In 1994 he won a special prize in the ACCU/UNESCO photography contest celebrating the United Nations year of tolerance. In 1997 he made a photographic documentary about the assimilation of Asian people in Canada. He studied film photography and directing at the Centro de Capacitación Cinematográfica (CCC). Trópico de Cancer is his first feature film.
