18 - 23 September 2007 Amsterdam
De Balie | Melkweg | Studio K | UvA
Cinemaztlán Mexican Film Festival welcomes you for its second edition from 18th until 23rd September in four venues in Amsterdam. The festival presents a large selection of Mexican films, which include those awarded in festivals around the globe and works of talented filmmakers that were not screened outside Mexico before. In addition, the festival includes debates at the University of Amsterdam and De Balie with the presence of film experts and artists from Mexico.

Cinemaztlán will screen a contemporary programme of long features, short films and documentaries in Cinema De Balie and Studio K, which cover different theme blocks: microuniverses, on the move, dystopia, mexican family and fantasy. These films have a visual force that inspire and bring about reflection in the present. The retrospective titled Madmex: ‘El Futuro más acá’ at the Melkweg Cinema is a unique cycle of hardly seen abroad cult science-fiction films from the 40’s until 60’s.

We put an accent in those film works that explore the ongoing cultural transformation of Mexico, that eclectic and artistically burgeoning country that embraces a long tradition and a high speed modernity. We invite film lovers to look beyond Mexican stereotypes and experience the images of a strong and evolving film culture.
