We invite you to experience Mexico as a traveller, as the festival takes the concept of ‘journey’ as departure point for exploring and searching for new filmic proposals. In words of the Mexican Nobel Prize winner Octavio Paz, the journey is what characterises every society, which is always a quest for creation. Mexico is no exception. Its transit could be traced in the pilgrimage made by the ancient inhabitants to find their Promised Land, which is where Mexico City now lies. This is a trip that started in the mythic city named Aztlán - therefore the name of the film festival: Cinemaztlán.

Cinemaztlán aims at exploring the way in which Mexican myths and customs have evolved into modernity, as Mexico is a unique country of contrasts and mixtures that is plugged in into the new century while still preserves its roots. Taking as a base the traditional social and cultural vision sowed by Mexican people through time, we look forward for reflecting how their perceptions merge, modify and take new shape in our contemporary world.
